- 6 Squadron Pioneers
In recent weeks I have received several requests asking me to reserach the WW1 activities of airmen who served with 6 Squadron on the Western Front. Rather than keep the information off-line, I thought it would be a good idea to gradually build up a database of brief biographies for 6 Squadron Royal Air Force pioneers and include them on this website. So if you have any information or requests regarding 6 Squadron personnel who served in the Great War, please contact me via this blog or the 'CONTACT' page on this website. Pictured below are the men of the (then) Captain Lanoe Hawker's flight, taken in 1915.

- 6 Squadron's 100th Birthday!
6 Squadron Royal Air Force is about to celebrate its 100th birthday, as it was formed on 31st January 1914 at Farnborough. It seemed a good time to start a blog on my website, even though it is still incomplete. For more details as to how 6 Squadron will be celebrating, go to the 6 Squadron Association website, http://www.sixsqnassociation.org.uk
- Streamers Return to 6 Squadron
After an absence of 96 years, the streamers my grandfather brought back from Belgium have returned in style to 6 Squadron Royal Air Force. My thanks to Squadron Leader Jim 'Rosie' Lee for making it all happen.
- Poperinge Exhibition on Heavy Traffic (1914 to 1918)
A diorama and outdoor exhibition on heavy traffic in Poperinge during the Great War was opened on the 19th September 2014 at the Gasthuiskapel (hospital chapel) Gasthuisstraat 1A. Included in the exhibition are photographs that Captain Dennis Glover took during the time he served as a pilot in 6 Squadron, which was then based at Abeele, 6 kilometres south west of Poperinge. The phototgraphs have been reproduced with the kind permission of Squadron Leader (ret) Rob Glover, his son. If you plan to visit Poperinge, take a small detour and visit the Lijssenhoek Military Cemetery, where more 6 Squadron personnel are buried than any other squadron in the Royal Air Force. The visitor centre was opened in 2012 and includes a wall that contains photographs of some of the men who were buried at Lijssenhoek. I have attached to this post a copy of the invitation sent to me for the opening day of the exhibition.

My third novel, Leaning on a Lamp Post - an autobiography - has just been published. Initially copies can only be bought direct from the publisher ( http://www.feedaread.com/books/Leaning-on-a-Lamp-Post.aspx ) or myself. However, by the end of November it will be able to be purchased from a number of on-line books stores including Amazon and Abebooks.

To coincide with 6 Squadron's official 100th anniversary celebrations in April, I have donated the flight commander streamers that my grandfather brought back from Belgium in 1918. They are already in the safe hands of George Robertson (see photo) and will shortly be taken to the squadron's home at Leuchars (just across the water from where George lives). Mike Baulkwill, the present OC 6 Squadron, has promised me the streamers will take to the air in a Typhoon during the 100th anniversary celebrations of 6 Squadron Royal Air Force.
