Poperinge Exhibition on Heavy Traffic (1914 to 1918)

A diorama and outdoor exhibition on heavy traffic in Poperinge during the Great War was opened on the 19th September 2014 at the Gasthuiskapel (hospital chapel) Gasthuisstraat 1A. Included in the exhibition are photographs that Captain Dennis Glover took during the time he served as a pilot in 6 Squadron, which was then based at Abeele, 6 kilometres south west of Poperinge. The phototgraphs have been reproduced with the kind permission of Squadron Leader (ret) Rob Glover, his son. If you plan to visit Poperinge, take a small detour and visit the Lijssenhoek Military Cemetery, where more 6 Squadron personnel are buried than any other squadron in the Royal Air Force. The visitor centre was opened in 2012 and includes a wall that contains photographs of some of the men who were buried at Lijssenhoek.
